About
THIS EVENT IS PART OF THE ENGLISH RIVIERA WALKING FESTIVAL
Don’t be deceived by Babbacombe’s tranquil facade!
Perched on the highest promenade in Britain, Babbacombe commands spectacular vistas, stretching over 40 miles on a clear day to Dorset. Its colourful floral displays, pretty shops and cafes make it a magnet for guests looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. Babbacombe is described as ‘peaceful’, ‘genteel’ and ‘relaxing’. So, it may come as a shock to learn that two of the UK’s most high profile court cases of the 19th century took place in Babbacombe! Be amazed to see how Mother Nature is eroding the coastline and making houses un-saleable. We’ll pass by a model village with over 13,000 inhabitants and through an award winning park that bans animals and children…not what you’d expect in Babbacombe!
- Learn about Oscar Wilde’s infamous liaison in Babbacombe
- Look across Babbacombe’s woods to appreciate why Queen Victoria described it as a ‘place where fairies appear’.
- Hear the incredible story about John Babbacombe Lee – “the man they could not hang”
- Marvel at the Victorian’s engineering as you are transported on a funicular Cliff Railway
- Visit the only beach to receive a blue flag accreditation every year since the flag’s inception
- Find out how a dog saved Torquay United from relegation!
