Babbacombe

Sheltered beaches. A theatre. Direct access to the SW Coast Path. Quirky independent shops. You’ll find them all in Babbacombe. Throw into this mix the eclectic choice of cafes, bars, bistros and restaurants and you’ll discover that Babbacombe offers everything you need for a very special holiday beside the sea in Torbay. Find out about some of our exceptional places to eat in Babbacombe:

Where to eat in Babbacombe for traditional pub grub

You’ll find plenty of places in Babbacombe serving up honest pub grub crafted from fresh, local ingredients. The Buccaneer Inn is situated right on Babbacombe Downs and combines its outstanding location with a strong reputation for extending a warm welcome to customers. There’s a kids menu, daily specials, and an extensive cellar of beers, cider, wine and soft drinks to wash it all down. Whether you sit out on the patio or in the dining lounge, there are fine views across Lyme Bay to savour with your meal.

Or try the award winning Babbacombe Inn. Also located on Babbacombe Downs, there are stunning views across the sea. Here you’ll find pub favourites like Steak and Ale Pie on offer as well as a traditional roast on Sundays. And there’s a children’s play area to keep younger members of the family happily entertained.

And the unexpected …

Authentic Indian and Nepalese food is probably not what you would expect to find in this traditional seaside village, but Babbacombe is always full of surprises. At Himalaya they use fresh herbs and spices to create delicious curries. If you like a bit of spice, give it a try.

A quick pick me up

After a busy day finding the unique and unusual in Babbacombe’s bustling shops, take a moment to refuel in one of the excellent cafes and coffee shops. For a divine treat head to Angels Tea Rooms to sip loose-leaf tea served in pots with fine bone china cups and saucers. If you’ve worked up an appetite have a scrummy homemade scone with local jam or order lunch from the board.

Outstanding Babbacombe restaurants

The Cary Arms and Spa has a reputation as one of the most luxurious places to stay in Devon. And when you dine in its restaurant you’ll also enjoy that sense of indulgence. From the simple ‘pint of prawns’ to roasted loin of Devon lamb, it’s a gastro-pub with a strong focus on using the best, locally-sourced produce. It’s also blessed with a stunning seafront location on the beach, helping to make every visit to this restaurant truly memorable.

Food and drink al fresco

When the sun is shining the blue sea of The Bay positively glistens and you feel like you could be in some far-flung clime. Make the most of it by choosing Babbacombe restaurants where you can dine al fresco. Enjoy a Mediterranean vibe at Three Degrees West. This smart bar and bistro is set down on Oddicombe Beach. Enjoy a locally-made ice cream, savour an indulgent homemade cake, or enjoy tapas and freshly prepared dishes. On warm days, the terrace is the place to enjoy the view. Or head behind the floor to ceiling glass windows to watch the waves whatever the weather.

From the perfect cuppa to beachfront brunches, search Babbacombe restaurants for inspiration.
