About
THIS EVENT IS PART OF THE ENGLISH RIVIERA WALKING FESTIVAL
Discover what life was like in Torbay 40,000 years ago
Following mainly the South West Coast Path, this walking tour takes us back in time to Torbay during the Ice Age. As we walk through the forests and take in the stunning coastal views we’ll envision just how different The Bay would have been at this time, filled with an enormous quantity of extinct ice age animals. The tour will touch on woolly mammoths, saber-toothed cats, Neanderthals and why Devon was integral to the early understandings of the Ice Age.
- Hear about the animals that once lived and died in The Bay and how these animals helped to secure Torbay’s UNESCO Global Geopark status.
- We’ll discuss the multiple different species of human that would have once walked this same route.
- Get hands-on experience touching the bones of these extinct animals and the tools left by humans throughout The Bay.
- There is the option to take a guided tour through Kents Cavern to delve deeper into the Ice Age (this is an extra cost)
- Afterwards, enjoy light refreshments the Kents Cavern cafe.
