About
A Dramatic Agatha Christie Experience on the English Riviera in 2026
Agatha Christie fans should head to the English Riviera’s Palace Theatre in 2026 where an adaptation of one of Christie’s finest murder mystery novels will be staged.
Towards Zero will be presented by Bijou Theatre Productions in their long-standing annual Agatha Christie run. Bijou first staged Towards Zero in 1984 and have produced a summer play at the Palace Theatre Paignton every year since then.
Director, Sarah Caplan: “Because Towards Zero has been unavailable to produce for many years, this production feels like opening a long-locked door.
What fascinates me about Towards Zero is that the mystery doesn’t begin with a murder—it begins long before, with choices, grudges, and quiet tensions waiting to explode. My production will lean into that slow, irresistible tightening of the noose.
As director, my joy will be in shaping an ensemble where even the smallest gesture might mean everything. Christie’s world demands that we look closer—so we invite the audience to do exactly that.”
When a house party gathers at Gull’s Point, the seaside home of Lady Tressilian, Neville Strange finds himself caught between his old wife Audrey and his new flame Kay. A nail-biting thriller, the play probes the psychology of jealousy in the shadow of a savage and brutal murder.
Christie was inspired by the Devon coastline and the River Dart provided a strong source of inspiration for the settings in the book, particularly for the fictional locations of Saltcreek and Gulls Point.
Gerald Verner’s stage adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero, set in a drawing room, premiered in the West End at the St. James’s Theatre in September 1956.
Theatre goers can enjoy the full Agatha Christie Experience with a visit to her delightful Riviera holiday home at nearby Greenway and follow Torquay’s ‘Agatha Christie Mile’ around key points associated with her life.
Palace Theatre Director, Maureen McAllister: ‘We love our annual Agatha Christie run as it really does bring fans from all over the world. It is always heartwarming to hear how the murder mysteries of ‘The Queen of Crime’ hold such strong memories for our audiences.’
Towards Zero will run at 7:30pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9th June to 30th July 2026. Tickets £18
