About
We've gone batty this Halloween! Join us over Half Term week to take part in some bat-astic activities.
Before or after your tour around the prehistoric caves, discover our interactive activities, all included with the Cave Tour ticket.
Neon Bat Hunt
Kents Cavern is one of the most important Stone Age sites in Europe and one of Britain's best showcaves! On your visit you'll go back to a time when the cave was home to ancient humans, sheltering from extreme weather, making fires, shaping tools and hunting Ice Age animals. As you walk through the extensive labyrinth of caverns, you'll be surrounded by 400 million-year-old rocks and spectacular stalagmites and stalactites.
Our cave is no stranger to the occasional bat or two... but can you find all of the mysterious glowing bats as you wander around our prehistoric passageways? Hidden in nooks and crannys against our stunning natural rock formations, it's up to you to see if you can spot them all!
Jot your answer down on your activity sheet and head on to your next challenge - The Bat Lab!
The Bat Lab
NEW for 2025! Our interactive Bat Lab will see our kids activity room turned into a space where education meets fun as children become bat experts!
The Bat Lab features fun and inclusive sensory activities that use the senses of sight, touch, sound and taste and once completed earn you your official Kents Cavern bat expert sticker!
Woodland Trail
Throughout the whole of October our Woodland Trail will be transformed into our Bat Fact Trail! Complete your Halloween activity sheet as you search for the answers to our intriguing bat facts.
Compliment your cave tour by taking a stroll along our woodland trail and spot local wildlife and seasonal flowers. Our woodland paths are clearly marked and set with hardcore but sensible footwear is advisable. Due to the natural setting of our woodland trail, it should be avoided by buggies and wheelchairs
Other Activities
There's plenty more to do at Kents Caven to keep the whole family entertained!
We have free gemstone digging taking place all day, every day (plus you can keep whatever treasure you find!).
In our Stone Age Zone you can try your hand at cutting antlers with flint knives or making holes in stones with a bow drill.
Discover even more about the fascinating archaeology and geology of Kents Cavern and local area with our information panels and take a look at some of our artefact displays.
Don't forget to pick up a Kents Cavern guidebook to take away with you!
