About

Agatha Christie described Greenway as “the loveliest place in the world”. It was here that she had her holiday home, on the banks of the River Dart. With a long history dating back to the 1490s, the house still retains features added by all generations of occupying families. Now cared for by the National Trust, the property offers visitors an extraordinary glimpse into the private life of the Queen of Crime and her family.

Greenway is a magical place to explore, with its rich historical interior and the romantic mystery of its garden. Agatha Christie set two of her novels here, both of which feature on the Agatha Christie Literary Trail: Five Little Pigs and Dead Man’s Folly. In Dead Man's Folly it appears as Nasse House, and the boat house was the scene of a murder.

With a shop stocked full of Christie books and memorabilia, to a second-hand bookshop in the old stables, it’s a reader’s paradise. There’s also the Barn Café, serving hot drinks and light lunches, or the Tack Room which opens seasonally, inspired by ice cream parlours of the 1950s, it serves cold drinks and ice creams.

Don’t miss:

From guided garden walks to pop up talks, Easter egg hunts and family focused fun, there’s something for everyone at Greenway. You can see all the events for 2024 on the website.

If you are travelling by car to Greenway, you will need to book your parking in advance. You can do this through the website: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/greenway

Alternatively, why not travel by river with the Greenway Ferry Company? There are services departing Dartmouth and Dittisham daily from 1 March to end of October. For times and prices, visit www. www.greenwayferry.co.uk .

Greenway is open daily, 10.30am-5pm, from 10 Feb until 3 November 2024, and then 11am-4pm November and December weekends.

Dogs: Well behaved dogs on short leads are welcome in the garden, café and shop. Assistance dogs welcome in the house.
