About
"When Ma Rainey come to town, Folks from anyplace, miles aroun', From Cape Giradeau, Poplar Bluff, Flocks in to hear Ma do her stuff."
Ma Rainey, the mother of the blues, was a trailblazer in so many ways. She was known for her deep-throated voice and mesmerising stage presence that drew packed audiences and sold hit records in the early 20th Century. Join Rainey's Revue, a stunning 5-piece band, for a captivating journey through the music of the 1920's, 30's and 40's., featuring Ma Rainey's iconic songs and a handpicked selection of tunes from that golden era.
Led by the renowned Richard Exall (The Glen Miller Orchestra UK, The Pasadena Roof Orchestra) on tenor sax and clarinet, in conjunction with Musical Director, Dom Barnett on piano, the music performed by Rainey's Revue has been arranged to feature some of the classic songs of the singer dubbed 'The Mother of The Blues' – Ma Rainey, whilst capturing the true essence of the music from the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. The established rhythm section featuring drum legend, Sam Kelly (Chaka Khan, Ben E King, Ruby Turner) and noted big band double-bassist, Marianne Windham on double-bass, set the foundation for an entertaining, crowd-pleasing musical experience. Complimenting this swinging ensemble are the powerful, captivating vocals of Chrissie Myles (multi-Platinum selling band, Bastille) together with jazz singer, actress and show narrator, Emily Windham, whose voices will transport you to the jazz clubs of yesteryear.
