About Us

The English Riviera’s breath-taking landscape has designated UNESCO Global Geopark status, one of only seven in the entire UK and 140 in the world. A place where you can touch a very special part of the Earth’s story and be amazed by the extraordinary landscapes, mountains, coastlines, places and people.  UNESCO Global Geoparks share the story of our Planet.

Celebrate our designated UNESCO Global Geopark at this year's Geopark Festival. A wide range of events will be available to visitors and residents at a number of locations across the bay. There's a range of events taking place all week for you to enjoy, explore and experience all of the different aspects of the Global Geopark.

Further information will become available soon via http://www.englishrivierageopark.org.uk/events.cfm

Situated within the stunning, rolling hills of South Devon boasts one of Earth's extraordinary places, the English Riviera's geology has created the beautiful coastline of today, which fundamentally links the rich diversity of landscape with wildlife, people and culture.

What is a Geopark..

UNESCO Global Geoparks are single, unified geographical areas where sites and landscapes of international geological significance are managed with a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development.

A UNESCO Global Geopark uses its geological heritage, in connection With all other aspects of the area’s natural and cultural heritage, to enhance awareness and understanding of key issues facing society, such as using our Earth’s resources sustainably, mitigating the effects of climate change and reducing the impact of natural disasters.

By raising awareness of the importance of the area’s geological heritage in history and society today, UNESCO Global Geoparks give local people a sense of pride in their region and strengthen their identification with the area.

The creation of innovative local enterprises, new jobs and high quality training courses is stimulated as new sources of revenue are generated through geotourism, while the geological resources of the area are protected.
