Experience a weekend of outdoor art inspired by the plein air tradition, as the creative focus moves to the historic grounds of Torre Abbey for Torbay's first open-air painting competition.

Running alongside the community celebrations, the Torre Abbey Plein Air Competition invites artists of all levels to test their skills in a demanding, timed environment. Challenging participants to capture the unique coastal landscape and historic surroundings within a strict four-hour window, all entries must be started and finished on location on the day.

The competition actively encourages diverse contemporary practices, welcoming submissions across any medium - from traditional oils and watercolours to urban, digital, sculptural, and printmaking practices. All completed works will be reviewed by a panel of professional judges and partner representatives, with cash prizes awarded for the overall winner, themed categories, and a dedicated under-18s award.

THE GREAT TORRE ABBEY PAINT OUT
The Great Torre Abbey Paint Out takes over the seafront from 5th–6th September. Look out for artists working on location, or have a go at capturing the landscape yourself during the Sunday Mass Paint Out. The Great Torre Abbey Paint Out is a celebration of Torquay heritage and two of our best loved historic sites, Torre Abbey and Torquay Pavilion. The event is organised by Torre Abbey, Torquay Pavilion Creative Engagement Group, and Artizan Collective.

Main Comp: £25.00

Discretionary Comp: £18.00 (this is the same as a main comp ticket but we invite entrants to self select into this category if it helps them to participate.)

Youth Comp: £12.00

Youth Bursary: Free (we hope to be able to offer several free entries for young people to participate. RSVP using the free ticket and we'll be in touch the week of the event to confirm bursary spaces based on you reservation date)
