The Clifton at Paignton

About Us

Our rooms have all you'd expect - flat screen TV, wifi, clock radio, hair dryer, beverages, toiletries, etc. They're individually colour co-ordinated and range from singles through to family five - all with en suite. Breakfast is included in the price, and Steve lovingly prepares optional superb evening meals to order.

We’re ideally located for touring South Devon, either by car or by bus or train, and there are many walking opportunities too. There are many attractions in the area too numerous to mention< but they are visible on our web site.

Leave the motorway following Torquay signs (beautiful scenery at this point). The traffic slows at the Penn Inn Roundabout when the dual carriageway changes to single. At the next roundabout - the Riviera Roundabout (there’s a palm tree emblem on the grassy bank on the LHS) turn right onto the ring road for Paignton. Turn left at the second roundabout - to Preston (Preston is not on the big green sign, but on the small white one after it). Follow the road down to the traffic lights at the junction – beautiful view of the bay as you descend. Go straight over into Seaway Road. Follow that road under the railway bridge, bearing right. The sea is now on your LHS behind a wide expanse of grass and beach huts. Keep going until you see the Apollo Cinemas looming, and Kernou Road is on the RHS just before the pedestrian crossing – between the Spinning Wheel and another Pub. We’re on the LHS down there.

There’s parking for five cars if we squeeze up tightly, so, please park as close as you can to the left hand side on the front of the hotel - ignoring the white lines, which were marked to accommodate 6 very small cars! If a car is there already, please park as close to it as possible. The parking is unrestricted on the road opposite at night, and there’s a 24-hour multi storey car park just around the corner.

If you’re coming by bus or train:

Leave the train station and turn right, or leave the bus station and turn left, towards what used to be Woolworth’s, and is now the 99p Store.

Turn right over the level crossing (passing the steam railway on the RHS) heading towards the sea. Take the second left (Garfield Road), pass a service road, and the next road on the RHS is Kernou Road, and we’re just round the corner on the RHS.

These are all very short distances, however, the taxi rank is right by the station, and there are usually plenty of taxis waiting.

It’s a one way road system, so it’s a much longer route by road – don’t think the taxi driver is trying to cheat you!! .
