About

Devon Palms is a collection of Holiday Cottages and Holiday Apartments set in one acre of a stunning hamlet in Maidencombe, on the outskirts of Torquay. It is situated within walking distance of a peaceful bathing cove, with many beautiful views over the bay.

Devon Palms regularly makes improvements to both the Cottages and Apartments to make your stay even more enjoyable.

Maidencombe is only ten minutes away from the centre of The English Riviera and Teignmouth (4.7 miles), both with lovely, safe sandy beaches. The English Riviera offers a rich variety of daytime and evening entertainment with a wide choice of pubs, bars, theatres, and nightclubs.  There are many award-winning restaurants offering some of the best local cuisine around including the freshest seafood from England’s Seafood Coast, locally brewed beers, ciders, wine and speciality gins.

Within the most northern reach of The English Riviera you will find the hamlet of Maidencombe, which is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. The area remains rural with a backdrop of farmland and facing North/East stretches down to the wonderfully rich Devon sandstone cliffs which overlook the sea and Lyme Bay. This red sandstone is responsible for the soil’s red colour and sometimes cloying texture but is a feature of the local farmland.

Maidencombe is also situated on the South West Coast Path, which is enjoyed by many on holiday.  Maidencombe has always been popular with locals and visitors alike who appreciate nature, views, walks and the country style of life, yet are within striking distance of a decent sized town.

Over 1750 acres within the English Riviera’s beautiful bay including nearby Anstey’s Cove (2.9 miles) and Brunel Woods (0.9 miles), as well as Berry Head Nature Reserve in Brixham (13.5 miles) and Occombe Farm in Paignton (5.7 miles) are managed and preserved by the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust, a local charity.

Torquay, at the heart of the English Riviera is less than four miles away and can be reached either on foot, via the South West Coast Path (recommended for walkers), by car or by bus, passing through St. Marychurch and Babbacombe on the way.

A must-see attraction when visiting South Devon is Cockington Village and Cockington Country Park, only 2 miles from Torquay seafront. The picture postcard village dates to the 16th century and is also mentioned in the Doomsday book. It has narrow country lanes, charming thatched cottages, quaint tearooms with rose-filled gardens for a Devon Cream Tea, a 450-acre country park, ornamental lakes and a renovated water mill.  It’s one of the English Riviera’s UNESCO Global Geopark key sites steeped in local history and a Naturally Inspiring beautiful landscape. Don’t miss thea walk around the grounds of Cockington Court in the country park and to the village for a truly unique experience.

Within easy reach of Devon Palms Holiday Cottages and Apartments are facilities for all types of sport, sailing, fishing, water skiing, windsurfing, diving, swimming, tennis, bowls, tenpin bowling, golf and walking. The rural splendour of Dartmoor with its walking, horse riding and picturesque views and numerous Devon villages in the surrounding areas is only a half hour car journey away.

To make your stay as stress free as possible Devon Palms have many excellent added extras, many free of charge. All visitors staying are provided with linen upon arrival and towels can be provided upon request with a very small fee charged. A shopping service to the local shops/village is offered to visitors arriving by public transport, prior to arrival. This way it is ensured that all the necessities are covered so you can enjoy your stay and experience The English Riviera to its full potential.
