THIS EVENT IS PART OF THE ENGLISH RIVIERA WALKING FESTIVAL
The second and final day of the ‘adventure’ is considered one of the most scenic on the South West Coast Path.
Starting from Torquay Harbour, we head towards Meadfoot Beach (another of Agatha’s bathing haunts), through the prestigious Lincombes, past Anstey’s Cove (a notorious smuggling cove) to Babbacombe and Oddicombe beaches, home of the world famous funicular railway.
The scenery here is just amazing, from limestone outcrops to red sandstone cliffs and wonderful crystal coves. The tour takes us through tranquil wooded valleys and into the picture postcard village of Maidencombe, where there is the option to have lunch at the historic Thatched Tavern or enjoy refreshments at the fabulous beach cafe. Once energised, we make the final ‘push’ to Shaldon, a quaint village on the river Teign to enjoy a well earned cream tea.
This section of the ‘adventure’ covers approx 15 miles over terrain which varies from ‘easy’ to ‘strenuous’. If you enjoy steps and steep climbs, this is the walk for you – the panoramic sea views are so worth it!
Along the way, your two experienced tour guides will provide lots of interesting facts and entertaining anecdotes to help take your minds off the climbs!
We will return to the start point on a local bus (number 22) from Shaldon to Torquay (the cost of travel is not included in the ticket price).
This walk should only be attempted by experienced and physically fit walkers.
