About
At the country home of the D’Oyly Carte family you can travel back in time to the Jazz Age. This most evocative of country homes was built in the Arts & Crafts style in the late 1920’s and is imbued with Art Deco elegance. A light, joyful atmosphere fills the rooms, and music plays, echoing the family’s Gilbert and Sullivan connections. You can get an insight into 1920s life ‘upstairs and downstairs’ from the glamorous Saloon to the airy servants’ rooms.
In the RHS accredited garden viewpoints give enticing glimpses out to sea, and paths weave through glades past tranquil ponds, as tender plants from the Mediterranean, South Africa and New Zealand thrive in the moist and sheltered valley.
Make a day of it with a refreshing light lunch and refreshments in Café Coleton. With indoor and covered outdoor seating, local ice cream and four legged friends welcome, it’s the perfect place to pause. There’s plenty to see in the destination lifestyle shop too. Inside, the shelves are filled with gifts, homewares, books, local produce, and gardening accessories. In the courtyard, you could pick up a plant from the selection which changes seasonally to reflect what’s growing in the garden at the time.
Each season brings something new, from the bursts of cherry blossom and Easter egg hunts in the spring, to wildflower meadows in the summer and scenic coastal walks in the winter.
Dogs: Well behaved dogs on short leads are welcome in the garden, café and shop. Assistance dogs welcome in the house
Coleton Fishacre is open daily, 10.30am-5pm, from 10 February until 3 November 2024, and 11am-4pm November and December weekends (with additional open days around Christmas). Please see the website for more information.
