Going away for your holidays can often mean leaving one of the most important members of the family behind – your dog. But in South Devon we like to extend a warm welcome to all our visitors, including our four-legged guests. That is why you’ll find plenty of dog-friendly places to eat in Devon.

Dogs are an important part of life in the South West. Many of our canine friends still play a vital role in the economy of the region, particularly in the farming and leisure industries. That is why we tend to be much more accommodating towards guests who don’t want to leave their pet behind when they come down to visit us. The result is plenty of pet friendly restaurants and cafes where your dog will receive just as warm a welcome as you do!

Dog-friendly dining for salty sea-dogs

Just across the road from Torre Abbey Beach, you’ll find Visto Lounge Torquay. The place to see and be seen, sit out on the terrace to enjoy your meal al fresco with your pet. If you’re visiting in the winter months, your dog can enjoy a swim in the sea from the beach across the road. Or walk just a little further along the seafront to Livermead Beach, where your dog can splash in the waves all year round. Venus Cafe on Broadsands Beach (dogs are permitted on the beach1st October to 31st April) also have a new canine menu.

Torbay is home to 22 miles of spectacular coast path, stretching along the entire length of the English Riviera. It’s the ideal walking ground for you and your dog. If you’re planning to tackle it, it pays to be prepared and know where you and your pet will be welcome when you need to take a well-earned rest.

The award-winning Cary Arms Inn and restaurant at Babbacombe has a reputation for serving up seasonal dishes with panache. And you can’t fault its stunning location right on the sea. Whether you want to enjoy a celebratory meal or just a refreshing pit stop during a coast path walk, it’s good to know your dog will always be very welcome here – just don’t let them get too close to your plate of Devon sausages!
