About Us

Shoalstone Guest House enjoys incredible sea views across Torquay and towards Lyme Bay and Dorset. It is a relaxing and welcoming place to stay with plenty of on-site parking. We are ideally located on the coastal road and only minutes away from Berry Head National Nature Reserve, a UNESCO Global Geopark gateway site; Shoalstone open-air seawater pool and Breakwater Beach. We are a short, scenic walk to Brixham marina and the charming and picturesque fishing port with its shops, galleries and takeaways.

Our quality bed and breakfast accommodation is a few minutes from the famous Brixham Fish Market which boasts some of the most valuable catch of fish in the whole country.  Each day a fleet of 70 boats land over 40 species of seafood including lemon sole, bream, turbot, plaice and crab. The English Riviera is also known as England’s Seafood Coast with much of the landed fish destined for some of the best tables in the UK and Europe, as well as served in local restaurants, cafes and pubs.  A trip to South Devon isn’t complete without sampling some delicious fish and chips and other locally sourced produce such as beers, ciders, home-made cakes and of course, a Devon Cream Tea.

We are open from March to November and offer guests outstanding views of the harbour and across the bay from most of the bedrooms. There is a delightful outdoor terrace area and a comfortable guest lounge with a log burner for cosy evenings in. Your stay includes a freshly prepared breakfast with a wide selection of cereals, fresh fruit, homemade compotes and yogurts and a range of home-cooked options, served in our welcoming dining room.

Our guest accommodation includes en-suite facilities with a bath or shower, complimentary toiletries, Flat-screen TV, Free Wi-Fi access, a hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities. Iron and ironing boards are available on request.

We have ample free parking within the grounds of Shoalstone Guest House for visitors arriving by car or motorbike. If you prefer to leave the car behind and explore the area by taking a bus trip around the Bay, there are regular services running between Brixham and the neighbouring towns of Torquay and Paignton. Some of the primary bus routes are directly outside with a bus stop conveniently placed at the bottom of the drive with easy transport links to other South Devon locations.

For keen walkers, ramblers and cyclists the English Riviera’s 22 miles of amazing coastline forms part of the South West Coast Path. Our waterside location means that we are an ideal base for sailing, coasteering, paddle-boarding, fishing and water skiing. The English Riviera has so much to discover, including possibly the highest concentration of top-quality attractions of any British resort.  Brixham has 3 museums, Brixham Heritage Museum; Brixham Battery Museum and Gardens; and The Golden Hind Museum Ship. The town also hosts a number of popular festivals and outdoor events including Brixham Pirate Festival, Brixfest and Brixham Heritage Sailing Regatta and Rally, and the Torbay Steam Rally at nearby Churston.

There are incredible National Trust properties on our doorstep including Agatha Christie’s former home at Greenway on the banks of the River Dart and Coleton Fishacre, a 1930’s arts and crafts house and once home of the D’Oyly Carte family with stunning gardens and sea views. Dartmoor is also short drive away, as are the villages and beaches of the South Hams.

Kents Cavern Prehistoric Caves, Babbacombe Model Village, Babbacombe Cliff Railway, Cockington Court and Country Park and Torre Abbey Museum in Torquay are just some of the must-see attractions to visit during your stay. Many thousands of visitors each year take a trip on the delightful Dartmouth Steam Railway, leaving from Paignton and stopping at Churston and Greenway Halt on its way through to Kingswear with an onward ferry crossing to the historic naval town of Dartmouth.

Devon’s Beautiful Bay really does have it all, and we look forward to welcoming you to the Shoalstone very soon.

Please note Shoalstone Guest House is not suitable for guests with pets, infants or children under the age of 14 years.
