About
If you`re looking for clean, comfortable guest accommodation in a friendly, relaxed environment, then look no further. We are the perfect choice for short breaks, holidays or just a one-night stay.
Situated in a peaceful, tree-lined street within easy walking distance to Torquay seafront, the harbour, main shopping area and Riviera International Conference Centre, The Iona is an ideal base from which to experience and enjoy the delights of the English Riviera and the beautiful countryside and coast that surrounds us here in South Devon.
We have 9 rooms including single, standard double, premier with balcony, four-poster double, superior double or twin with balcony. Each room is individually decorated and furnished to a high standard. Our beds have high quality open coil pocket sprung mattresses and crisp white cotton linen to ensure a great night’s sleep. Each room has a hi-spec en-suite bathroom with a high-pressure shower (some rooms also have baths) plus complimentary Walter Geering hair and body products and soft white towels.
And for Breakfast we offer Juices, Cereals, Fruits, Yogurts, Croissants, Cheeses and Cold meats from the buffet, plus a wide range of cooked options from the kitchen, and freshly Brewed Coffee, Hot Chocolate and a selection of Teas.
We are in one of the UK’s top holiday destinations and are a convenient base to stay if you plan to enjoy the areas’ award-winning attractions, bars, restaurants and 20 beautiful beaches. The English Riviera’s 22 miles of stunning coastline forms part of the South West Coast Path, a popular route for keen walkers, ramblers and nature lovers. This unique area is Naturally Inspiring, and you will find plenty of outdoor adventures and activities to try such as coasteering, fishing trips, sea kayaking, sailing and paddle-boarding.
Torquay is the birthplace of the famous crime writer Agatha Christie and the area boasts many attractions and events to interest arts and culture lovers. The International Agatha Christie Festival takes place each year and attracts visitors from all over the world. Take the self-guided Agatha Christie Mile walk around Torquay and visit many of the places that inspired the ‘Queen of Crime’. We are located within a short walk of Torre Abbey Museum (0.5 miles) where you can visit the Potent Plants Garden inspired by the poisons used in Agatha’s famous murder mystery stories and also Torquay Museum (1.5 miles), which hosts an Agatha Christie gallery.
During the warmer, summer months there are many outdoor events and festivals including Torbay Royal Regatta hosted by Royal Torbay Yacht Club, English Riviera Air Show and Brixham Pirate Festival.
The English Riviera’s enviable mild climate is perfect for alfresco dining with a wide choice of cafes, pubs and restaurants providing quality local produce and famous Devon hospitality. It would be a shame to come to Devon and not try a Devon Cream Tea and we recommend that you enjoy your homemade scone the proper way with cream and then jam on top! The South West produces some of the finest food and drink with quality seafood landed at Brixham harbour for a fish and chip supper, the freshest vegetables grown in Devon’s rich red soil and locally sourced succulent meat. There are many local breweries producing award-winning beers, ales and ciders as well as artisan makers producing speciality gins and wines so you really can experience the best of the Westcountry. The area has gained a great reputation for its outstanding quality dining experiences including the Michelin-star restaurant, The Elephant on Torquay harbourside. Each year the English Riviera hosts the Seafood FEAST, a celebration of its world-class seafood. If you love fish you’ll be hooked!
Relax and unwind as you walk in the sand or paddle in the crystal-clear water at one of the English Riviera’s 10 award-winning beaches with Torquay’s Abbey Sands only 1.6 miles away. There are many hidden coves and long stretches of sandy beaches to discover.
However you like to spend your precious time we know that you won’t be disappointed!
Here at The Iona we look forward to welcoming you.
