About

Hotel Hudson is a 10-bedroom family-friendly hotel, just 250 metres from Torquay Harbour and within a pleasant 2 kilometre walk of the main beach, Torre Abbey Sands.  All rooms have modern en-suite bathrooms, a hairdryer, electric shaver points, a Freeview TV with DVD, tea and coffee making facilities and most rooms have delightful sea views. For guests with limited mobility we have some rooms on the ground floor.

There is onsite parking for guests as well as plenty of roadside parking adjacent to the property. Hotel Hudson has a licensed bar, business facilities including Broadband Wi-Fi, and a spacious guest lounge.  We are open all year, close to the South West Coast Path and located within the world famous, English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark. If you enjoy walking and explore the great outdoors, this is the place to come.  The Naturally Inspiring landscape is unique and there are many outstanding sites to visit including Berry Head National Nature Reserve (9.7 miles), Cockington Village (2.7 miles) with its 450-acre country park and Babbacombe Downs (1.8 miles), the highest cliff top promenade and vantage point in England.

As well as being convenient for the beach and harbour, we are also just a short walk to the town centre for high street shops and designer boutiques.  Torquay has a wide selection of excellent quality, family-run and independent cafes, takeaways and restaurants so you have ample choice any time of day or night to taste some of the South West’s finest dishes.  The area is also known as England’s Seafood Coast for the world-class seafood landed locally at Brixham (8.7 miles) and sold daily at Brixham Fish Market.  You can take an early morning tour of the fish market to see a live auction taking place as well as enjoy a delicious breakfast at nearby Rockfish.

Explore the English Riviera on foot, by car or bus and visit the neighbouring seaside town of Paignton and the charming hillside fishing town of Brixham.  Agatha Christie was born in Torquay and her holiday home, Greenway at Kingswear (8.1 miles) is near to Brixham and an idyllic place to visit with fascinating gardens and views across the River Dart. Try a sightseeing tour around Torquay or Paignton on a land train or an open top double decker bus ride with live commentary from the experienced local guides.

As one of the UK’s top seaside holiday destinations there’s plenty to entertain all ages. Try your hand at adventure or crazy golf, enjoy a pedalo ride around the bay’s sheltered and calm waters or turn your hand to sandcastle building or crabbing. There’s plenty of family-friendly activities on offer at Torquay Museum, located on the same road as Hotel Hudson and less than a minute’s walk.  The museum is open throughout the year and has exhibition and gallery displays about Local Explorers, Natural History, Ancient Egypt, a Devon Farmhouse and Torquay’s most famous resident, Agatha Christie. Further along the Babbacombe Road (0.9 miles) and you’ll find the multi award-winning, Kents Cavern, one of Europe’s top prehistoric Stone Age caves.  It’s the official underground visitor centre for the English Riviera’s UNESCO Global Geopark with a spectacular labyrinth of caverns surrounded by 400 million-year old rocks, stalagmites and stalactites. Join a tour guide and learn about the many artefacts including a human skull and the oldest human jawbone found on the site.

The English Riviera’s large horseshoe shaped sheltered bay has a Mediterranean-style climate throughout the year, making it the perfect destination for a short break or family holiday.

We welcome solo travellers, couples and families with children over the age of 12 years.
