Bowden House offers quality self-catering accommodation in an elegant Victorian villa in the delightful area of Maidencombe in Torquay. There are 6 good-sized apartments to choose from for your weekend, midweek or summer holiday break. Poppy is a one bedroomed apartment, perfect for solo travellers or a couple and there are a range of other options with two and three bedroomed apartments sleeping up to a maximum of 6 guests, with spacious bathrooms and en-suite facilities. Lavender is a split-level apartment with 3 light and airy guest bedrooms including the master bedroom which is frequently used as a honeymoon suite.
Many of the apartments have far reaching sea views and easy access to the sunny, well-tended garden. From the idyllic clifftop location Maidencombe Beach is just a short walk (0.4 miles). There are 20 local beaches to enjoy, with 10 of those having received the prestigious Blue Flag and Seaside Awards for their cleanliness and water quality. Meadfoot Beach (5.3 miles), Oddicombe Beach and Babbacombe Beach (3.2 miles) are within reach and can be accessed by road or public transport.
The English Riviera is a pet-friendly resort and Bowden House accepts well-behaved small dogs and responsible owners, so there’s no need to leave your four-legged friend behind. Bowden House also welcomes babies and toddlers under 2 years and children over 12.
The apartments are ideally located to access the coast road which runs from Torquay to Shaldon (2.4 miles) and onwards to the neighbouring towns of Teignmouth (3.9 miles) and Dawlish (7 miles). The local bus service provided by Stagecoach runs regularly along Teignmouth Road towards the picturesque Torquay Harbourside for high street shopping, coffee shops, gift stores and amusement arcades. Torquay Harbourside and Marina (5 miles) is also a hotspot for night-time entertainment with plenty of lively bars, traditional pubs, waterfront cafes and independent restaurants to choose from. It is also home to some of the top visitor attractions in the area including Princess Theatre, The Real Crime Museum and Escape Room.
The quaint districts of St Marychurch (2.8 miles) and Babbacombe (3 miles) are close by with Bygones Museum, Babbacombe Model Village, Babbacombe Cliff Railway and Babbacombe Theatre offering great value, family-friendly entertainment. There are lots of family-run businesses, tearooms and restaurants serve a wide range of quality local produce including Devon Cream Teas, fish and shellfish caught and landed locally from England’s Seafood Coast.
Torquay Railway Station (4.8 miles) and Torquay Coach Station (3.3 miles) provide regular links to the rest of the country if you are planning to visit by train, coach or bus.
The English Riviera’s stunning landscape has attained designated UNESCO Global Geopark status and there are many breath-taking sights and fascinating key sites to explore. Kents Cavern, one of Europe’s most exciting Stone Age Caves is home to Britain’s earliest humans and Ice Age beasts in Wellswood, Torquay (4.2 miles) and Berry Head National Nature Reserve in Brixham (14 miles) are attractions not to be missed during your stay.
For walkers and ramblers, the quintessentially-English, Cockington Village and Country Park (5.8 miles) is not to be missed as well as the famous South West Coast Path which meanders along 22 miles of the English Riviera’s coastline, with some of the most spectacular views and scenery across South Devon and beyond.
