About

A warm welcome awaits you at Birchwood House, where a first-class service will make your holiday as relaxing and as enjoyable as possible.

We are ideally located within a short, 10-minute walk of Paignton Sands, the iconic pleasure pier and Paignton Green, which hosts a packed programme of family-friendly events and festivals including the English Riviera Air Show.

We have ample, secure and free onsite parking for guests with cars and we are close to excellent local transport services to help you get around the Bay. Paignton Railway and Bus Stations are 0.7 miles away as well as Paignton Harbour (0.5 miles) for ferry boat and sightseeing trips running between Brixham and Torquay, Dartmouth Steam Railway for trips to Kingswear and Dartmouth, Paignton Land Train which weaves around the town and seafront and a delightful open-top sightseeing bus.  Stagecoach buses run frequent daily services all year and the nearest bus stops are conveniently located on Sands Road (a 2-minute walk) and Dartmouth Road (a 5-minute walk).

We have a fully licensed, well stocked bar and a comfortable lounge area for guests to enjoy. There are 9 spotlessly clean and comfortable, en-suite bedrooms and some ground floor rooms for those with limited mobility.  Each room has free Wi-Fi , a TV with Freeview channels and Fairtrade tea and coffee making facilities.

We are a family friendly business and are ideally placed for visits to many top attractions including the popular Splashdown Quaywest, an outdoor waterpark and a boating lake in Goodrington (0.9 miles).  On Paignton Green there is a multiplex cinema, adventure golf course, trampolines in the summer months and a visiting international circus and touring fair. There are many child-friendly restaurants, pubs and cafes and bars positioned along the seafront as well as evening entertainment in the town centre. Palace Theatre is the oldest working theatre in the resort and offers many popular, family shows throughout the year.

Torbay Road, known locally as ‘The Golden Mile’ is home to several amusement arcades and gift shops to pick up some holiday mementoes and gifts for loved ones. We are conveniently located for day trips to the beach for swimming, pedalo trips, paddle boarding, sailing or fishing.

The English Riviera’s 22 miles of picture-postcard coastline forms part of the South West Coast Path and Birchwood House is within a 0.6 mile walk of the network of coastal paths. The neighbouring town of Brixham is 5.2 miles away and here you will find many interesting places to visit including Golden Hind Museum Ship, a life-sized replica of Sir Francis Drake’s famous ship and the world famous, Brixham Fish Market, England’s largest fish market by value of fish sold.  The English Riviera is also known as England’s Seafood Coast and Brixham is a great place to sample some of the finest quality fish and chips in the South West. There are many harbourside cafes, takeaways and restaurants serving the freshest seafood on the menu, caught and landed at Brixham harbour earlier in the day.

Torquay (3.8 miles) has some of Devon’s very best attractions including Living Coasts (4 miles) an all-weather coastal zoo and aquarium and partner of Paignton Zoo (1.7 miles); Kents Cavern, a gateway site to the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark (4.8 miles); Babbacombe Model Village (5.1 miles) and Cockington Village, quintessentially English and picturesque with thatched cottages, rose-filled gardens and a country park and 16th Century manor house (3.7 miles).

Birchwood House is at the very heart of the English Riviera and open all year. We have great offers including special deals when booking 3 nights or more. We are the ideal base for your next holiday or short break in South Devon.
