About
You will be made very welcome upon arrival at Abingdon House by Billy and Shona, with personal service and a homely atmosphere. We offer 5 stylish en-suite bedrooms which have all been newly decorated plus a very comfortable dining room and bar/lounge area to relax in. Two double bedrooms offer great value, the two superior bedrooms offer King-sized beds, and the Super King room offers a Superking-sized bed, extra space, additional comfort and quietness. There is also an option to split two of the king size beds if required. There is onsite free car parking and free high speed Wi-Fi internet access.
We accommodate anyone over the age of 18 but unfortunately not able to accommodate pets.
Abingdon House is a Victorian Villa built in the 1860.s and was once home to the Lord Mayor of Torquay. It is ideally situated within a traditional holiday accommodation area of Torquay. A short, level walk will take you to Torquay Town Centre (0.8 miles), Torquay Harbour and Marina (1 mile via the scenic gardens of Torre Abbey), Riviera International Conference Centre (0.6 miles) and the seafront promenade (0.7 miles) lined with palm trees, popular independent and chain restaurants, coffee shops, cafés and bars.
We offer a wide variety of choice for breakfast with a traditional ‘full English’ using the very best locally sourced ingredients and light cooked options such as maple syrup and bacon pancakes, scrambled egg on toast, along with many other choices. Cereals, fresh fruits, yoghurts and fruit juices are also available. We are able to cater for gluten free and other dietary needs, so please let us know if you have special requirements when you book your accommodation.
Known as England’s Seafood Coast, a visit to the English Riviera should include a seafood dish or traditional fish and chip supper. Some of the best quality fresh fish and shellfish is landed and sold daily at Brixham’s famous fish market (5.2 miles).
If you are interested in local history, art and culture, amble along to Torre Abbey Museum (0.4 miles), an Ancient Scheduled Monument and medieval monastery which houses an impressive collection of fine art, interactive galleries and exhibitions and a Potent Plants garden, based on the poisons mentioned in Agatha Christie’s novels.
The English Riviera’s 22 miles of beautiful coastline forms part of the South West Coast Path and is a designated UNESCO Global Geopark, one of only 7 in the UK and 140 in the whole world! The English Riviera is also home to some of the best visitor attractions in the South West including The Real Crime Museum and The Escape Room which are all located on Torquay Harbourside (1 mile). Torquay Museum, home to the country’s only dedicated Agatha Christie gallery; Kents Cavern Prehistoric Caves, a gateway site to the English Rivera’s UNESCO Global Geopark (2.5 miles); Babbacombe Cliff Railway (1.8 miles), Babbacombe Model Village (1.7 miles) and Bygones Museum (1.6 miles) are all easily accessible by car or by local bus service. Nearby golf courses offer the 'across the spectrum' golfer ample opportunity to enjoy their surroundings.
A short walk from Avenue Road, in nearby Walnut Road you will find a bus stop to take the No. 32 bus into the town centre and onwards to the quaint district of Babbacombe in Torquay. This service runs every 10 minutes and is a very convenient way of getting to Torquay Harbour if you prefer not to stroll along the promenade. The No.12 bus service also runs every 10 minutes along the coastal road (A379 and A3022) between Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. At the far end of Avenue Road, towards the sea you will find Torquay Railway Station, a convenient location for those wishing to arrive by train. Alternatively, Torre Station is within 0.5 miles of our guesthouse. For guests with cars there is ample, free on-site parking.
