To discover the delights of a Devon Cream Tea, visit one of the English Riviera’s many charming tea rooms. For delicious loose-leaf tea, homemade scones and cakes, light lunches and a variety of other tasty treats try Burridge’s Tearooms overlooking Torquay Harbourside. The local produce and vintage style décor provide a special experience.

On the other side of Torquay, the picture-postcard village of Cockington serves up some excellent, traditional cream teas. Cockington’s hidden gem, Weaver’s Cottage Tea Shoppe, is a small family run business serving light lunches and homemade cream teas in an 18th Century cottage or in the courtyard garden. Elsewhere in Cockington the Seven Dials Café at Cockington Court is well worth a visit.

Award Winning Cafes & Tea Rooms

The English Riviera is very proud of its award cafes and tea rooms including the Guardhouse Café which is located in a Napoleonic fortress on Berry Head and a Gold winner in the Devon tourism and Taste of the West food awards. A warm welcome also awaits you at other award winning tearooms in Brixham including the Dilly Dally Tearoom and Ella’s Chocolate House and Tea Rooms.

A refined tea in Torbay

Treat yourself to high tea at The Grand Hotel Torquay. Neat finger sandwiches and homemade cakes take you back to a bygone era that’s quintessentially English. Or add a bottle of bubbly for an added celebratory touch.

Or try the Cockington Court Tea Rooms, which are housed within the luxurious settings of a manor house dating back to Tudor times. A perfect destination for a civilised afternoon, Cockington Court is also home to art galleries, a craft centre and a country park you can lose yourself in.

Afternoon Tea on Babbacombe Downs

If it is sea views that you enjoy then the views from the Angels Tearooms on Bababcombe Downs are hard to beat, as is their traditional Devon Cream Tea.

Here on the English Rivera, there’s so much to do that you might find you need a rest and a good old English cuppa once in a while. Fortunately, we also have no shortage of cafés – perfect for recharging the batteries for another round of ‘Can we go here? Let’s go there!’ from the kids.

Torquay has a huge number of cafés to choose from, but there’s one you simply must check out. The perfect antidote to bland chain cafés, One World Café a little gem of a café nestled in Torre Abbey park that serves a wide selection of teas and a delicious selection of fresh homemade pastries and light bites all day long.
