Dave Worthington from Below Decks, Torquay

Dave at Below Decks in Torquay

Dave has been a barista since 2009 when he started working for Adele & Gayle at their beach cafe down on Oddicombe Beach. Sadly the cafe got destroyed in the 2014 storms. He then transferred to Below Decks where he has been working since.

Dave loves making coffee and practising his latte art. He has recently been on extra training with Lavazza coffee to enable him to train others. His favourite coffee to drink is

Dave lives with his partner Stacey and his two twin boys Eliah and Issac who are 16 months old. The boys visit Below Decks frequently and of course, our favourite customers.

Interesting fact - Dave was once an apprentice football player with Torquay United. He now plays for Stoke Gabriel and is this season’s top goalscorer.

Favourite type of coffee - Latte, but often enjoys an espresso after dinner.

Jo Harakis from The Guardhouse Cafe, Brixham

Jo is originally from Brixham – and in fact worked at The Guardhouse Café aged just 14, many years before the current extension was complete! She since had a career in London before returning to Brixham after the birth of her daughter Piper. She has been working with us since January 2017 and was promoted to ‘Head Barista’ in 2018.

When Jo gets time off from barista duty, she loves climbing around the Bay, however having a 6 year old means that she doesn’t get to do it often enough!

Interesting fact - Randomly, about 30 years ago Jo discovered she could potentially be ambidextrous..! Jo used to see a reflexologist (seeking help with diabetes) who was surprised that she wasn’t left handed. Jo now pours a pretty good latte art heart with her left hand️, as well as her right.

Favourite type of coffee - Decaf golden flat white (one of the current specials at The Guardhouse Cafe – a mix of turmeric latte and a flat white!)

Kelly Legge, The Curious Kitchen

Kelly has been with TCK for just a couple of months but had been delicately honing her coffee craft for years, having only recently decided to make the jump and do it professionally. Kelly is doing an incredible job, so far!

Kelly is a huge fan of the traditional espresso machine but also has a huge passion for the V-60 and aeropress methods of making coffee. Both of which are much more craft oriented coffee making, which take much more time and hands-on love to get right. Kelly will be adding these to the already strong repertoire of coffee at TCK.

Interesting fact - Kelly believes there is “literally nowhere better in the world than the ‘Bay” and more than anything she loves spending time at the beach and Shoalstone Pool (outdoor, sea pool in Brixham) with a couple of cold bevvies and her closest friends.

Favourite type of coffee - A smooth, medium roasted filter coffee, freshly dripped using the V-60 method.

Hannah Evans, Victorian Times Coffee Shop & Tea Room, Paignton

Hannah is nearly 21 years of age, and is proudly, the Head Barista at Victorian Times Coffee Shop and Tea Rooms, a family owned and run coffee shop based on Torquay Road in Paignton.

Born in Lancaster, Hannah grew up in the beautiful Eden Valley in Cumbria for the first 16 years of life, before the whole family moved to Devon in 2014. Hannah has been a Barista now for almost 5 years since taking on the business in January 2015 and she enjoys creating fantastic tasting coffees.

In her spare time she loves playing tennis with her husband and Dad, a sport she has enjoyed at competitve level from a young age, with lots of success. She hope to one day start coaching tennis and has begun her coaching qualification.

Interesting fact - Hannah is very much a Disney girl and has been to Disneyland Paris no less than 21 times! Once for every year since her birth, including for her honeymoon! Must be a record...

Favourite type of coffee - A nice, frothy Cappuccino with plenty of chocolate sprinkles on top!
