Driftwood Boutique B&B

Driftwood Boutique B&B in Brixham, Devon

Keith and Zoe opened the doors of their contemporary classic, boutique style B&B in 2017.  Living close to the water Zoe enjoys gig rowing, and she regularly puts her interior design skills to work whilst Keith spends his spare time redeveloping the garden.

Nestled above the quayside there are fantastic South-East facing panoramic views of the harbour, Brixham town and across the Bay. It’s a great base for exploring the local area with good transport links and ferries to Torquay and Dartmouth close by.

The Driftwood has been awarded Booking.com’s 10 out of 10 Excellence Award and TripAdvisor’s 2017 Certificate of Excellence. There are 4 luxury guest rooms each with elegant furnishings, private or Juliette balconies and comfy Super King or King sized beds.

Keith and Zoe recommend that visitors take in the picturesque views and delightful coastal and woodland walks from Berry Head, Breakwater Beach, Fisherman’s and Churston Coves and to enjoy the lovely sunset over Brixham harbour.

Beacon House

When Hervé, originally from Brittany and Nathalie, from Mauritius, visited Brixham in July 2019 they fell in love with the quaint fishing town. That day was the beginning of their journey. They had dreamt of living by the sea and were missing the seaside ambience so they set about acquiring ‘Beacon House’. Hervé and Nathalie have worked in the hospitality business throughout their working lives and speak a number of languages including French, Mandarin, Hakka and English.

Beacon House was originally named Prospect House and was built in the early 1850’s for a local smack trawler owner. The property has been restored with much of the heritage and character retained whilst modern amenities have been added. This gorgeous Victorian detached villa has 4 guest bedrooms and ample onsite free parking.  Guests can enjoy breakfast in the Captain's lounge, next to the Galley, which has a huge bay window with wonderful views of Brixham marina, the breakwater and beyond.

Hervé and Nathalie recommend an afternoon tea at The Guard House Cafe, set amongst the stunning Berry Head National Nature Reserve and a gateway to the English Riviera’s UNESCO Global Geopark. A Naturally Inspiring place to be.

They offer locally sourced produce and a varied breakfast menu including a delicious Full English, Kedgeree, Scallops or Pancakes with many other options available.

Melville Guest House

The Melville Guest House in Brixham, Devon

Jackie and Colin have been the hosts at The Melville for almost three years. They love the amazing walks and seeing the gorgeous seals and other incredible sea life that are often spotted in the Bay. Colin likes riding his motorbike around the area, taking in the stunning English Riviera scenery and swapping motorbike stories with guests.

The Melville is an old Victorian townhouse which was built by a local trawler owner. Look out for the beautiful stained-glass window of his trawler ‘Our Boys’ BM181, which was built at Uphams, Brixham’s famous shipyard and the site where ‘The Mayflower II’ replica was built. The Wesleys enjoy welcoming returning and new guests to their B&B and offer great value for money with seven comfortable guest rooms.

This B&B has consistently received good reviews on TripAdvisor and has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence, making it a perfect choice when visiting Brixham and the surrounding areas. Ideally located with good access to local transport, The Melville is only a five minute level walk to the charming harbour and town centre.

Redlands Guest House

This late Victorian, Early Edwardian building was built from waste granite used in construction of Brixham breakwater and it is believed that the house was originally constructed for a Master Mariner. Redlands Guest House is now owned by Matthew who is offering a bed and breakfast in Brixham with a nautical twist.

Built around 1900, Redlands has been modernised but still retains its original character and charm. In the 1950’s the business was owned by film and TV actor Conrad Phillips with many famous names staying such as Roger Moore and Barbara Windsor.

All of the guest rooms have been individually decorated to a high standard, with single, twin, double, king and super-king rooms available. Guests can access hi-speed wifi internet access and use of the garden and patio area. Redlands provides onsite parking and is within a short 10 minute walk from the bustling harbour.

A top tip for visitors is to take a Brixham Fish Market tour to see where £25 million of fish is landed and auctioned each day. The tours are hugely popular and are a great opportunity to take a peek behind the scenes and meet the local characters, culminating in a scrumptious fish breakfast at Rockfish.

Sample the homemade yoghurt, marmalade, jams and peanut butter during the breakfast service. This venue has entered TripAdvisor’s Hall of Fame for the second time and has received a prestigious Certificate of Excellence.

Rosie and Matthew’s top tip is to explore the Napoleonic Forts at Berry Head National Nature Reserve where dogs on leads are very welcome.

Sea Tang Guest House

Claire and Chris run the Sea Tang Guest House, part of an elegant Victorian terrace and a former Sea Captain’s accommodation. This charming B&B is only a 10-minute walk from Brixham town centre and harbour, offering free parking in the marina car park, just 100m away.

Assistance dogs such as hearing dogs and guide dogs are welcome here and special dietary needs including Vegetarian and Gluten-free can be accommodated.

Sea Tang is spread across three floors with six modern guest rooms, four with stunning sea views across Brixham Marina and towards Tor Bay. Claire and Chris have installed an HD webcam called Brixcam to their website with live streaming giving visitors fantastic real-time views of daily harbour activity, sightings of lifeboats and trawlers, and weather and tide updates.

A delightful short trip on the Western Lady Ferry Service is one of Sea Tang’s recommended things to do. The ferry service has been running for over 70 years and stops at nearby Paignton and Torquay. Look out for the friendly staff dressed in red uniforms at the ticket office to buy your return ticket and embark from New Pier on the harbourside in Brixham.

Located in Kingswear, just a short drive from Brixham, visitors can enjoy the echoes of the family’s Gilbert and Sullivan connections when the piano is played in the 1920’s themed saloon. Well behaved dogs are welcome in the gardens.
