The Guardhouse Cafe, Brixham

This cafe is located in a beautiful spot right on the Berry Head National Nature Reserve. Equally as inviting in the summer or in the winter, or even all year round. Dogs are always welcome here so refuel before continuing your walk around the beautiful headland of Brixham.

Something to go with the coffee? Try their rich, homemade chocolate cake. It reminds you of Bruce Bogtrotters cake in Matilda, but it tastes incredible. Maybe worth sharing as its normally a huge slice!

Occombe Farm Cafe, Paignton

A wonderful little cafe located on a working farm almost halfway between Torquay and Paignton. The cafe is a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee and look out at the following hills which flow down towards Cockington and the Torquay coastline.

It boosts heart functions in the elderly: A study conducted by Heinrich - Heine - University’s Medical Faculty in Germany, showed that drinking four cups of coffee daily can enhance the function of heart cells as well as help the elderly recover from heart attacks.

Protects you from liver cirrhosis: A study conducted by Southampton University found that drinking coffee can lower risk of cirrhosis. Drinking just one cup per day was shown to reduce the risk by 22%, two cups by 43%, and three cups by 57%.

Reduces risk of type 2 diabetes: Research conducted by Aarhus University in Denmark found substances in coffee that can reduce the risk of developing Type-2 diabetes. Initially, the scientists had suspected that caffeine was responsible for this effect but later identified other substances in coffee that are responsible for this.

Can protect you from prostate cancer: Drinking three or more cups of coffee a day can also lower the risk of prostate cancer, as long as you make it the Italian way! Showed a study conducted by IRCCS Neuromed, Italy. The Italian method of making coffee involves high pressure, very high water temperature and no filters.

Boosts your exercise routine: Drinking a cup of coffee in the morning before hitting the treadmill can help you feel more energetic and stronger. A study conducted by Coventry University found that having a cup of coffee an hour before a competitive running race could improve performance times by 2%.

When we first decided to open a café we always knew we wanted to serve fresh, healthy, modern food with options for everyone. We wanted a family or group of friends who had meat eaters, vegetarians, vegans & coeliacs to be able to come to our café and all eat together happily! We wanted to make as much of our food on the premises as possible, our own peanut butter, tomato ketchup, granola and cook our meals from scratch. Our Chef Ashley has had years of experience in catering, he started his career in Dartmouth whilst he was still at school then worked his way up the catering ladder working in Dart Royal Navy College, Café Ode, Pier Point & The Elizabethan Inn.
