When you stay at the TLH Derwent Hotel you get so much more than other Torquay Hotels. There’s a wealth of daytime activities to keep all ages amused, outstanding indoor leisure and nightly entertainment throughout the year and the beach is only a few minutes walk away.
Lively and informal, the TLH Derwent is the largest hotel in the TLH Leisure Resort group. Situated in the heart of Torquay, it’s ideal for families and for people who would prefer a hotel which is at the centre of things. Contemporary decor, a relaxed atmosphere and a friendly team to look after you, the stylish 3-star hotel is a great choice for your visit to the beautiful English Riviera.
The name "Derwent" can be traced back to 1913 when the owner of a property further up the road a Mrs F Gibbs, moved into the property and brought along the name “Derwent Private Hotel and Boarding Establishment.” The Murrell family took ownership of the Derwent in 1947 when it was a boarded-up building containing just 28 bedrooms, considerably less than the 174 there are today!
With less than 5 minutes walk to Torquay’s seafront, the Derwent offers easy access to the attractive harbour and town centre. The Torquay Land Train also has a convenient drop-off point right outside the hotel, which offers a fun way to get around for all ages.
The TLH Derwent Hotel has 174 en suite bedrooms which are located over 4 floors. There are a number of family rooms available, sleeping from 1-5 people, along with adjacent twins and doubles which are a popular choice for families with teenagers. The bright and comfortable bedrooms all feature a private bathroom, TV, telephone and tea and coffee making facilities. Most rooms have lift access, and free Wi-Fi and free parking are also included.
Drinking and dining in the TLH Derwent is an informal affair. The hotel offers contemporary dining in the bright and cheerful restaurant where you can enjoy buffet-style breakfasts including full English or continental choices, with table d'hôte evening meals, a salad bar and a hot buffet. There’s also a delicious range of lunches and evening meals in the Aztec Bistro and the on-site sports bar, Alberts Bar.
Leisure facilities include the luxury Aztec Spa for true relaxation and sheer indulgence, an outdoor pool with a separate children’s pool as well as 2 indoor pools (one of which is the largest indoor pool in Torquay), plus a sauna, steam room and hot tub. The Aztec Gym, which provides the perfect environment for shaping up and working out and there’s also an Aztec games area with 2000 square foot of wall-to-wall fun. You’ll find 10-pin bowling, archery, snooker, pool, tennis tables, a soft play area and more.
Kids love to play and make new friends and there’s nowhere better than the Toby Club. Supervised fun and games are organised by the Entertainment Team in the lively playroom, with plenty of toys to keep active youngsters occupied. Activities include competitions, craft fun, mini discos & face painting, modelling, swimming galas and video time because if the kids are happy, you can relax and enjoy yourselves too!
The hotel's Starlight lounge is the main hub for night-time entertainment and dancing, with a mix of cabaret and live acts from both the in house entertainment team and some of the South West’s leading cabaret artists, there's never a dull moment at the TLH Derwent Hotel!
