Shopping
Torquay
When it comes to shopping on South Devon’s beautiful bay, Torquay is the place to be. There is three major shopping centres: Fleet Walk is a stylish undercover shopping centre, the Pavilion is a converted Victorian theatre now housing a collection of speciality shops while further afield is The Willows, a huge out of town shopping centre.
Built in 1852, the Market Forum houses a number of shop units and barrows loaded with food, clothes, furniture and antiques – it’s a great place to find local produce.
Torquay’s most famous daughter
Torquay was home to one of the most famous authors of the 20th Century – Agatha Christie. Not only did she live in this beautiful part of Devon, but many of her most famous tales were set here too. If you’re a dedicated fan or even if you’ve only ever seen ‘Poirot’ on the telly a couple of times, you can buy copies of her books, film adaptations of the novels and lots more Agatha Christiemerchandise on Amazon.
An all year experience
As an all year round shopping destination, Torquay is hard to beat. During the summer you can explore the main street and harbour side, taking in the stunning marina as you go. And at Christmas you’ll be enchanted by the decorations and fairy lights, which you can enjoy while buying presents for all the family. During the festive period shops stay open until 9pm on a Thursday, giving you even more time for a spot of retail therapy.
