Weekend Breaks

If you’re looking for romance, relaxation or simply fancy a little time away in the sun, then weekend breaks can be a great way of breaking up the year, or a cheaper alternative to a week-long holiday.

South Devon is a popular destination for people searching for affordable weekend breaks with plenty to see and do. The English Riviera on the south coast of Devon is blessed with a particularly warm micro-climate, thanks to its location along a sheltered bay facing the English Channel.

As well as the favourable weather, the area also benefits from having a large number of attractions within a relatively small area, ensuring that you don’t have to spend half of your weekend driving from place to place.

The principal towns of the South Devon coast are Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. Whilst being closely linked, each has its own distinctive character and identity. What they all have in common however, is a 22-mile stretch of coastline featuring numerous sandy beaches that are both clean and safe, plenty to see and do and that typically warm Devonian welcome.

Attractions in South Devon

The South Devon coast has much more to offer than just warm weather and beautiful beaches. Torquay and Paignton are home to some of the finest nightlife in Devon, whether you’re looking for a romantic meal, a relaxing drink with friends or to dance the night away. If you’re bringing the kids along for the weekend, South Devon’s attractions such as Paignton Zoo, the Quaywest Water Park and Babbacombe model village are sure to keep them entertained.

For something a little more peaceful, Brixham is a great place to unwind. A town with a long history as a fishing port, the harbour remains at the forefront of life today and the nearby marina offers a variety of sightseeing cruises around the bay. Close to the town, the nature reserve at Berry Head is a favourite with birdwatchers on their weekend breaks, offering great views and a chance to see a variety of seabirds including guillemots, black-legged kittiwakes and razorbills.
