Short Breaks
If you feel the stresses and pressures of day to day life are starting to get to you, why not take a little time out and unwind with a short break in Devon?
The English Riviera in South Devon is a great place for short breaks at any time of the year, as its unique micro-climate means that it’s milder than the rest of the UK even in spring and autumn. In the summer the area is a popular destination for beach lovers and sun-worshippers, with 22 miles of sandy coastline and a host of attractions and activities to explore.
Things to do in South Devon
Families on short breaks will find a wealth of things to do on the South Devon coast. The town of Torquay is a traditional English seaside resort with everything you’d expect - sun, sand, deck chairs, ice cream and shimmering blue sea. But far from being a one trick pony, Torquay has plenty of things to do away from the beach and bars.
At the Living Coasts marine zoo visitors can witness penguins, octopuses and other marine wildlife up close, while at Torquay’s Dinosaur World children and adults can discover the secrets of the giant lizards that ruled the earth 65 million years ago.
In the neighbouring town of Paignton, the Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway offers a unique chance to see the Devon countryside aboard a living relic of Britain’s past.
The town of Brixham can be considered as an open-air museum of Devon history, with its active fishing harbour and numerous buildings of historical interest. Nearby, the coastal headland of Berry Head is a must for nature lovers.
South Devon Nightlife
If you’re looking for lively short breaks with friends, the English Riviera has that base covered too. Torquay and Paignton are home to a wide range of pubs, clubs and restaurants, as well as some superb beaches for relaxing on, the afternoon after the night before.
