Beacon Cove is a haven away from the main beach of Torquay and is close to Living Coasts, the coastal zone section of the award-winning Paignton Zoo. There is good disabled access down to the small promenade above the tiny shingle beach. Its sheltered position makes it a warm, sunny spot even out of season, and it was recommended in the Marine Conservation Society’s Good Beach Guide in 2011. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round.
The cove forms part of the Agatha Christie Mile, as it was a favourite bathing spot for the crime writer. Once when swimming she got into difficulty while trying to rescue her nephew and almost drowned!
The Agatha Christie Mile runs along Torquay seafront and features a number of landmarks significant in the author’s life and works. For more Agatha Christie sites, explore the Agatha Christie Literary Trail and discover the inspirations behind her books.
