Torquay Museum houses Britain’s only Agatha Christie gallery, dedicated to the life story of the town’s most famous daughter, the world’s undisputed Queen of Crime.
There are amazing artefacts from Torquay's famous Kents Cavern prehistoric caves, including the oldest human fossil in Britain – a 37,000 year old jawbone.
A new interactive Explorers Gallery traces the incredible journeys made by Torquay's famous explorers, including the hero of Brad Pitt’s forthcoming blockbuster movie, The Lost City of Z - Percy Harrison Fawcett, who spent years exploring the jungles of South America. Explore life and death in Ancient Egypt, including the coffin of a little boy entombed within, and see many exotic, beautiful and rare objects collected from across the globe by Torquay explorers.
Torquay Museum is open all year, Monday to Saturday, from 10am – 5pm, and Sunday afternoons mid-July to September 1.30pm – 5pm.
Nearest major road is A380. Follow signs to Torquay seafront, turn left along sea front to harbour, left at clock tower up Torwood Steet into Babbacombe Road. Turn left at 1st set of traffic lights into The Terrace for muti-storey car park.
Nearest station is Torquay station. Take the bus from outside the Grand Hotel to Torquay Harbour. Walk to the strand and turn left at the clock tower into Torwood Street and the museum is approximately 7 minutes' walk on the left, opposite the public gardens.
