Santa Needs Your Help
SANTA NEEDS YOUR HELP
Although we may be enjoying a partial Indian summer, that doesn't mean that the thoughts of the Torquay Carnival Coordinators aren't already turning towards Christmas. With a commitment to make this year's seasonal offering the best yet and to encourage thousands of people into the town centre for the Christmas carnival cavalcade, the team are looking for groups to get their Santa-style thinking hats on and create some really special floats.
Taking place on Saturday 1 December, the Torquay Carnival is the centrepiece of the biggest Christmas programme yet and is about giving Christmas shoppers something really special to get them in the seasonal spirit. The theme this year is a gift - quite literally. 'Gifts Galore' should give you plenty of scope to get creative...and remember, it's not the size of the package but the magic in it.
Any group can get involved, from local businesses to attractions and theatres to schools. What about motivating your sports team into action, or getting together a bunch of supporters of a local charity? People with access to unusual vehicles or classic cars are also most welcome. It's all about creating a great atmosphere and exercising that community spirit and above all - it's about having fun.
This year's parade will be lead by Father Christmas himself and some rather special guests. A team of real reindeers from the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre will be leading the parade, and you will also be able to 'meet' Rudolf and his friends from a location near the Coach Station from midday.
From motorised floats to pedestrian entries, the success of the carnival is only going to be limited by your imagination. The carnival is also a great opportunity to help raise some money for charity, while there are also variety of prizes up for grabs, meaning everyone is a winner!
Robert Excell, Carnival Co-ordinator said: "With the commitment and enthusiasm of the people of Torbay, we can make this the biggest and best carnival yet. The carnival heralds the start of December and the Christmas festivities and is a great chance to get into the spirit of things and make Christmas on the English Riviera special for locals and visitors alike. With your help, we can put the magic back into Christmas and make this a really spectacular evening for all the family."
