Shopping in Torbay

ShoppingWhat would a holiday be without a liberal dose of retail therapy and the English Riviera has bags of choice when it comes to shopping. Torquay has a thriving town centre, with all the high street shops and department stores you would expect along the main street and the harbourside. Fleet Walk is a stylish undercover shopping centre, packed with stylish shops, boutiques and cafes, while the Pavilion is a stunning converted Victorian theatre, which now houses a unique collection of specialty shops, as well as a bar and restaurant overlooking the marina.

A short drive or picturesque bus ride away is the historic St Marychurch, which has a pleasant pedestrianised shopping street with charming independent shops. For an altogether different kind of shopping, Torquay also boasts a huge out-of-town shopping centre at The Willows. As well as a huge supermarket, there are also several big-name clothes shops, furniture stores and electrical retailers.

Paignton has a good mixture of family run businesses and national stores lining the ever popular Torbay Road and Victoria Street whilst in Winner Street is fast becoming a stylish little street of colourful and unusual shops.Torbay Road is a favourite amongst families, boasting colourful souvenir shops packed with treats - both cool and kitsch treats.

Brixham's picture postcard streets are home to a rich choice of gifts, fresh food, clothes stores, al fresco cafes and art shops. Lose yourself in the quaint winding alleys and discover a wealth of souvenirs and gifts, many with a nautical theme. A craft market operates throughout the summer, offering unusual treats locally produced.

FleetwalkNo visit to the English Riviera would be complete without an afternoon out at the delightful Cockington. The charming thatched Village will transport you back in time, while Cockington Court and its stables have now been converted into studios, showcasing traditional arts and crafts, including glassblowing, pottery, calligraphy and woodcraft. Occombe farm is only a short drive away and includes a farm shop selling locally-sourced organic produce, while the regular farmer's market is also well worth a visit.

From the designer to the traditional, the English Riviera has it covered. Just leave some space in your suitcase to carry it all home!
