Geopark Week Events

To celebrate European Geopark Week, organisations across the Bay have creative an exciting week of events.

Walk on the Wild Side Festival - Monday 26th - Friday 30th May.

Dry Stone Walling Course - Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th May. 10.00am - 4.00pm.
Use different styles techniques and motars, learning the skill of repairing and building traditional stone walls. Cost £50.00 Booking essential: 01803 606035

Flint and Fire - Sunday 25th May. 10.00am - 3.00pm.
Karl Lee, one of the country's leading Prehistoric Technologist will be demonstrating the ancient art of flint knapping and fire making. Meet: Kents Cavern Prehistoric Caves. Cost: Free.

GB6GEO. Sunday 25th May. 10.00am - 3.00pm.
From a radio base station outside Kents Cavern take part in this international communication event and make contact with the rest of the world. Meet: Kents Cavern. Cost: Free

Go Coral Crazy! Monday 26th May. 1.00pm - 3.00pm
Hunt for fossilised coral on the beach and make your own coral reef fish money box. It's International Year of the Reef too! Meet: The Seashore Centre, Paignton. Children £2.00, Adults free.

Step Back in Time. Tuesday 27 May. 10.00am - 12.00pm.
Follow Bishops Walk with a ranger looking at Torbay's dramatic geological and cultural heritage. Meet: Ansteys Cove car park. Cost: Adult £3.50, Children £2.00.

Fossil Giants. Tuesday 27 May. 1.30pm - 3.00pm.
Come and see some of the fossils in the museums collections and have a go at moulding model fossills in clay (intended for children aged 8-12, younger children must be accompanied by an adult). Meet: Torquay Museum. Cost: Normal admission plus £1 per child for materials. Call: 01803 293975.

Trash or Treasure Day - Wednesday 28 May. 10.00am - 3.30pm.
A fun-packed day of activities for the whole family, including: Launch of the new Torbay Reusable Bags designed by local children. Scrappy Workshops and What are we doing to our World? Meet: The Seashore Centre. Cost: Free.

Crystals Rock. Thursday 29 May. 1.30pm - 3.00pm.
Explore the difference between rocks and minerals, look at some beautiful crystals, then have a go at sorting out a geological puzzle. Meet: Torquay Museum. Cost: Normal admission plus £1 per child for materials. Call: 01803 293975.

Wildflower Evening Walk. Thursday 29 May. 6.30pm - 8.30pm.
Discover the white rock rose, orchids and other wildlife with site manager Nigel Smallbones. Meet: Berry Head Visitor Centre. Cost: Children £2.00. Adults free.

Beach Clean at Churston Cove - Saturday 31 May. 10.00am - 12.00pm.
Help us to keep this beautiful cove clean. Meet: Churston Cove. Cost: Free.

Desert Lanscapes. Sunday 1 June, 10.00am - 1.00pm.
Walk with John Risdon from Paignton Seafront to Saltern Cove to unravel the mysteries of "fruitcake" rock, fossils in the sand and missing time. Return to Paignton Seafront on foot or by bus. Meet: Tourist Information Centre, Paignton seafront. Cost: Adults £3.50.
