Green Tourism on the English Riviera
The English Riviera is home to some of the most spectacular coastline on the South West peninsula.
It also has a unique geological heritage that spans millions of years. For centuries the English Riviera has been famed for its glorious landscape where all kinds of rare exotica and wildlife thrive in over 100 parks and gardens.
For us, it is of great importance that we preserve and respect the English Riviera's unique environment, heritage and culture for the enjoyment of generations to come.
Car Free Days Out
The English Riviera is very well served by local bus routes making it an easy resort to explore without a car. See our travel pages for details or call our Tourist Information Service on 01803 211211 for advice on routes and times.
Look out for businesses displaying the Green Tourism Business Scheme Awards. They have made a commitment to improving the environmental sustainability of their business and will help to make your holiday a 'Green Tourism experience'.
The Trust is a registered charity set up for the sole purpose of conservation of the natural and built environment of Torbay and the surrounding area, the provision of recreational facilities and environmental education. It currently manages 1,800 acres of countryside in The English Riviera, including farmland, woodland, National and Local Nature Reserves, Sites of Special Scientific Interest, and coastal paths.
They run a busy countryside events programme, lead over 80 school visits per year, are helped by a team of 60 active volunteers, carry out habitat management tasks, wildlife surveys and community involvement projects and advise other land managers on good practice.
Projects that have been overseen across the English Riviera include the protection of rare species such as the Small Blue Butterfly and Great Horseshoe Bat; the introduction of Soay Sheep at Wall's Hill and Shetland Ponies at Sharkham Point and a large focus on local marine conservation work.
The Trust manages a number of "walker friendly" coast paths, parks and woodlands in beautiful surroundings with spectacular scenery.
