Further Afield
With so much to see and do on the English Riviera it is hard to tear yourself away from the fun-packed attractions, stunning scenery and glorious beaches. However, for those looking to go further afield the English Riviera is the perfect base for exploring the nearby cities of Exeter and Plymouth, roaming the wild countryside of Dartmoor or taking a day trip to the fascinating Eden Project.
City escapes
Explore Plymouth and its unique combination of metropolitan buzz and historical delights. A day out in Plymouth could include visits to the Theatre Royal, National Marine Aquarium or Drake Circus Shopping Mall. The city is also home to the historic deepwater harbour of Plymouth Sound where you can take part in watersports and boat cruises.
A short drive from the English Riviera is the historical city of Exeter, which is bursting with sights to see, great shopping, exciting attractions and events. Visitors can take in the ancient architecture of the cathedral and Guildhall or enjoy a cable ferry across the River Exe.
Natural attractions
Away from the cities, Dartmoor National Park is within easy driving distance from the English Riviera. A beautiful countryside location, it boasts 368 sq miles of great outdoor pursuits including biking, hiking and horse riding.
A bit further afield is Cornwall’s Eden Project, another popular attraction for nature lovers. Built in a disused coal mine it has been transformed into a global garden where visitors can discover and explore stunning global habitats, plants and conservation. The Eden Project also hosts many live music and arts events.
