Things to Do

If you’re not content to hibernate at home for the autumn and winter, the English Riviera and South Devon could be your ultimate off-season destination. Unlike many seaside resorts, South Devon’s Beautiful Bay doesn’t shut up shop, and many attractions remain open. There’s ample opportunity for shopping too – craft studios in Cockington and other independent outlets provide the perfect places to pick up unusual gifts.

Indoor and outdoor fun

You’ll find unique experiences across the English Riviera throughout the autumn and, from animal attractions to museum delights. When it’s too cold to venture into the sea, you can even go wet and wild at our indoor leisure pool.

Of course, you don’t have to be confined to the indoors. The English Riviera is a UNESCO-recognised Global Geopark and its beautiful landscape lends itself to a range of free outdoor activities, including wintry walks along the South West Coast Path and beachcombing on our award-winning beaches. If you’re a hardy soul then a spot of winter kite surfing might be just what you’re looking for. And if all you want to do is huddle in the car with a flask of tea and enjoy a leisurely long weekend, then there are plenty of stunning spots to do that too!

Christmas Events and Attractions

The Riviera towns sparkle throughout the festival season with winter wonderlands and fabulous Christmas lights. Many of our attractions offer that extra something special at this time of year - look out for Santa's Grottoes in the most unusual of places! Pantomimes are in plentiful supply at our theatres, and you'll find a host of restaurants serving traditional Christmas lunch and dinner menus.

New Year on the English Riviera and South Devon is as lively as they come - the streets fill with merriment and it's the perfect time for a seaside escape.
