About Us

Why not get inspired at the very first Greenway Literary Festival in celebration of the ten year anniversary of Greenway House being opened to the public for the first time. Part of the #LoveGreenway year of celebrations.

We can't think of a better place to celebrate books, reading and writing, than the holiday home of Agatha Christie. A changing daily programme of workshops, talks and activities will explore the literary heritage of Greenway, with a children's book week in the May half term, followed by a week exploring crime writing and other genres.

Agatha Christie described Greenway as “the loveliest place in the world”. It was here that she had her holiday home, on the banks of the River Dart. With a long history dating back to the 1490s, the house still retains features added by all generations of occupying families. Now managed by the National Trust, the property offers visitors an extraordinary glimpse into the private life of the Queen of Crime and her family.

Greenway is a magical place to explore, with its rich historical interior and the wildness and mystery of its garden. Agatha Christie set three of her novels here, all of which feature on the Agatha Christie Literary Trail: Five Little Pigs, Dead Man’s Folly and Ordeal by Innocence. In Dead Man's Folly it appears as Nasse House, and the boat house was the scene of a murder. In Ordeal By Innocence, the house appears as Sunny Point House, and the Greenway Quay bell is used to summon the ferry to Drymouth (Dartmouth). Even the Baghdad Chest in the hallway of the house makes an appearance in The Body in the Library.
