We’ve separated the below activities into Halloween and non-Halloween fun! A couple of the activities listed are adult-only, for that bit of YOU time!

Halloween half term fun in Devon

The CarnEvil, Paignton

Beware, the CarnEvil is coming to Paignton this October. S.E.Amos' Greatest Show on The English Riviera is returning to Whitehill Country Park for one night only on 27th October 2018 with a spooktacular Halloween twist!

Join the fabulous Aneeta Fox for a jaw-dropping night of frights at this spooky circus-themed spectacular. Enjoy a terrifying mix of music, comedy and entertainment more from a variety of talented performers, including the amazing strongman and entrancing hypnotist!

The pre-show event outside starts at 8pm followed by doors at 8:15pm and the show starting at approx. 8:30pm. Tickets are £10 per person and must be pre-booked.

(Please note that this event is recommended for children aged 12+ or book in the babysitter and have a night to yourselves!)

Halloween Horrors at Paignton Zoo

Take your little monsters to Paignton Zoo this half term for a Halloween spooktacular time! Take part in a Wicked Reptile trail and receive a great prize as well as a Komodo dragon mask to take home, hitch a ride on the ghost train and don’t miss out on our special spooky animal talks!

There will be a Komodo dragon talk daily at 3.30 p.m.

Cockington Halloween Festival

Join the team at Cockington for some spooky fun during their Halloween Festival. There is lots going on including a spooky Sugar Skull Trail around the Court. The tea rooms will be providing scarily tasty dishes throughout the week.

The Witches Brew Scavenger Hunt, Occombe Farm

Ogin, the Occombe witch has dropped her cauldron and lost all of her magic potion ingredients. Horrible Hagard the wizard has put a spell on Occombe and only her special mixture can break the curse! Find all the ingredients for a new brew and help Ogin lift the curse before Halloween!

No need to book just turn up! Price is £2.50 per scavenger trail sheet.

Halloween in the Caves, at Kent’s Cavern

The prehistoric caves of Kents Cavern offer the perfect setting to scare the pants off the whole family! Between 20th and 31st October, you can join them for a whole raft of spooooky activities…

There are regular tours available throughout the day, plus Halloween themed activities, so go deep into the caves and enjoy an Underground Pumpkin Hunt, the Woodland Bat Challenge, Guess the Weight of the Pumpkin, Make your own Bat, any many more!

No need to book – just turn up and have lots of fun!

Halloween with the Dinosaurs in Torquay

Discover the Halloween Horrors that have invaded Torquay’s Dinosaur World. Save the dinosaurs from the wicked witch and the ghastly ghosts and ghouls, and take the Halloween Horrors Hunt to win a Dinosaur Expert Certificate and a FREE 160-million-year-old fossil.

PLUS, from 3.30pm everyday visit for their ‘Lights Out Torch Tour’ to explore the exhibition in the dark, listen to a scary ghost story, and meet their new baby T-Rex. Will you be brave enough?

Murder Mystery, Orestone Manor

Who committed the crime? Who’s the killer on the table? These are the questions on everyone's lips at this famous Murder Mystery night at Orestone Manor.

The evening starts quietly enough but as your excellent three-course dinner is served, a story unfolds before you. An investigation begins where if you wish you can play a key part in assessing the facts and questioning the suspects (but if not you can just sit back and enjoy the dinner party theatre).

Just £45 per person including a three-course dinner and the evenings entertainment. You must arrive by 7pm, to sit down at 7.30pm. A deposit is required to book.

(Please note this is not for the kids so maybe plan in the babysitter!)

October Half Term in Devon

Not everything is about Halloween during October half term. If you’re not feeling the spooky festivities then check out the below for non-Halloween fun around Devon during October half term.

Mosaic Workshops, Torquay

Go and visit the Tessera Hub and create your own little mosaic artwork.

For the smaller items, you only have to pop in without booking in first. You will be shown how to create the artwork. The design is totally up to the individual and you can choose from many lovely tiles. You will first lay out your design on your chosen object and once you are happy will stick it down. Once it tried (only takes a few minutes) I will than grout the piece for you to take home. At home, you leave the piece to dry overnight and in the morning you can use a wet cloth to give it a lovely shine. You can take as much or as little time as you need to create your artwork. I am looking forward to welcoming lots of locals and visitors alike.

All ages are welcome. You can create small coasters, frames or boxes from as little as £5. Ideal for a rainy day or if you like to try something different. Workshops for larger projects can be pre-booked.

Greenway House Harvest Trail, Paignton

Can your little-ones follow the clues around Greenway garden on this harvest-themed trail with a literary twist? Claim your small prize when you've found them all.

Wild Wednesday cook-outs, Paignton

On select Wednesday’s during the school holidays is a Wild Wednesday at Coleton Fishacre, where the team of rangers lead 50 things to do before you're 11¾! All activities take place in the garden.

During October half term, on Wednesday 24 October, its “Cooking on a campfire”.

World Scrabble Championships 2018, Torquay

Mattel, is delighted to announce that the World Scrabble Championships 2018 and the World Junior Scrabble Championships 2018, will be held at The Riviera International Conference Centre (ERC) – located in the heart of the English Riviera, in Torquay. The event will run from 20th October 2018 to 28th October 2018.

World Junior Scrabble Championships open to players aged 21 and under and will take place over 24 rounds will be played over 3 days (Saturday 20th October – Monday 22nd October). World Scrabble Championships open to all players will be 2 divisions with 35 games will be played over 4 days with the top 8 returning to play on the final Saturday in a Quarter Final and Semi-Final with the Grand Final to complete the week on Sunday 28th.

Throughout the week we will be holding various fun and educational activities, for children and adults of all ages, schools and families, to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Scrabble™ . You can find all the information you need at their official site.

Kids go for a quid on the South Devon Railway

If you’re looking to enjoy something fun and affordable outside of the English Riviera then jump onto this special deal with the South Devon Railway.

There’s a special half term treat for lovers of steam trains and beautiful Devon countryside on the South Devon Railway: it’s Kids for a Quid week! From 20 – 26 October 2018, all children will be able travel between Buckfastleigh and Totnes for just £1, as long as they come with a grown up, of course! All children age 3-15 travel for £1.
