Hollicombe Beach (01/01/2011 - 01/01/2015)

Hollicombe Beach sits between Torquay and Paignton. With its distinctive red sand backed by tall cliffs it’s a sunbather’s paradise, and there’s a slipway to the beach giving easy access for people of all abilities. Don’t forget to take a fishing net for the kids, as there are some great rock pools to dig around in at low tide. A bucket and spade are also essential, as the sand here is excellent for making castles. If you’ve forgotten any of those must-have beach accessories, you’ll find everything you need in nearby Preston.

Beyond the beach

To get to the beach, you’ll need to go through Hollicombe Gardens, so why not have a look around before hitting the surf? Originally an old gas works site, today you’ll find a beautiful green landscape with a pond, manicured flowerbeds and plenty of grass to relax on.

If you’re looking for something more adventurous than a gentle stroll, then the South West Coastal Path is 630 miles of great walks and is the longest coastal path in the UK. There are plenty of walks to choose from, with something to suit all levels of fitness. From Hollicombe Beach you can either head towards Paignton and its famous pier, or in the other direction there’s the cosmopolitan town of Torquay. Whichever way you go, the scenery is spectacular.

Whether you want a family friendly holiday, a relaxing vacation or an adventured-fuelled trip, the English Riviera, South Devon’s beautiful bay, has something for everyone.
