Tea Rooms

If there’s one thing Devon’s famous for, it’s Devon Cream Tea. We here on the English Riviera, South Devon’s beautiful bay, are very proud of this tradition, which consists of a nice pot of tea, served with a scone, clotted cream and jam.

You may have heard of cream tea served in neighbouring Cornwall, but this is not the same as Devon Cream Tea. Here in Devon we make cream teas the right way – we cut the scone in half and cover each side in clotted cream, then, and only then, do we add the jam.

A very English experience

To discover the delights of a Devon Cream Tea, visit one of the English Riviera’s many charming tea rooms. For delicious loose leaf tea, homemade scones and cakes, light lunches and a variety of other tasty treats try Burridges Tearooms overlooking Torquay Harbourside. The local produce and vintage style décor provide a unique dining experience.

On the other side of Torquay, the wonderful Georgian-styled village of Cockington serves up some excellent cream teas. The Rose Cottage Tea Gardens are a real indulgence in the summer. As well as tea they serve light lunches, often accompanied by a live pianist.  Opposite Rose Cottage is Cockington’s hidden gem, Weaver’s Cottage Tea Shoppe, a small traditional family run business serving light lunches and homemade cream teas in an 18th Century cottage or in the tranquil beautiful walled courtyard garden.

Also in Cockington, the Cockington Court Tea Rooms are housed within the luxurious settings of a manor house dating back to Tudor times. A perfect destination for a civilised afternoon, Cockington Court is also home to art galleries, a craft centre and a country park you can lose yourself in.
