Elephant Bar and Restaurant (The)
Fine dining at its very best! The Elephant is a two storey Michelin star restaurant, with a more informal brasserie on the ground floor and the Michelin-starred The Room on the first, overlooking beautiful Torquay harbour. Celebrity chef Simon Hulstone runs the restaurant with his wife Katy....
Eating Out
Eating out on the English Riviera, South Devon’s beautiful bay, will guarantee you some memorable gastronomic experiences. It’s not all about blowing big bucks either; there are eateries to suit all types of taste-bud and virtually every budget.
Dining
For eating out, Torquay is spoilt for choice, with a selection of Mexican, Indian and Thai restaurants on hand for an international flavour as well as family favourites Harvester and Wetherspoons. If it’s a real taste of the Westcountry you want, then head to Babbacombe, home of the award-winning Hanbury’s Fish and Chips, and Brixham’s a great place for seafood.
Celebrity Chefs
The English Riviera and South Devon are a destination of choice for top class and celebrity chefs. Torquay’s Elephant Restaurant is the base for celeb chef and Michelin-star holder Simon Hulstone, while the head chef of the nearby Grand Hotel is Richard Hunt, star of television’s Iron Chef. Not far away you’ll find Mitch Tonks in Dartmouth and Michael Caines in Exeter.
Local Produce
The English Riviera is famous for its seafood, and fish and shellfish from Brixham end up in top kitchens all over the world. Many of our restaurants serve up the freshest catch of the day, which can be matched with great local wine from neighbouring Sharpham Vineyard.
The farm shops at Occombe and Churston provide the best in delicious seasonal local produce, with Occombe stocking meat from its own herd of Devon Ruby Red cattle and veg from its organic garden.
